Some thoughts on Spring

If we had no winter, the spring would not be so pleasant: if we did not sometimes taste the adversity, prosperity would not be so welcome. -Anne Bradstreet
Spring is when you feel liike whistling, even with a shoe full of slush. -Doug Larson
When you think of spring you think of snow melting, raining, flowers, and warm weather on its way. These are 2 quotes that we read on spring. Both of them i have personally experienced or have thought of. And i know most people out there are thinking the same. It is April 7 and its still 30 degrees outside... I want winter to be over with. Ever heard of the saying "April showers bring May flowers?" Well this year its not following through with this saying. Just waiting and waiting for some kind of warm weather to come and put winter in the past.

What was your favorite food when you were young? Favorite food now? Same? Different? Have your tasts changed? Why or why not?

When i was a kid i was not a picky eater, I pretty much ate anything that was edible. But if i had to pick one thing that i loved the most it would have to be mac and cheese with hot dogs cut up in it. The one food that i do love now is Chipotle's burritos. It has to be by far my most favorite food ever. They are not the same in anyway. Once i found out about this great place to eat, i have loved it so much. I would not say my tastes have changed, i still love mac and cheese with hot dogs. It would have to be the #2 most favorite food item on my list. The only reason it has changed is that i found out about Chipotle and absolutely have loved it.

What's a time your opinion really mattered?

To think about something such as this off the top of my head is kind of hard. It is really difficult to pick out one thing that stood out to me when my opinion really mattered. One that has just happened recently to me is the situation with the roommates i currently live with. We have a set schedule for me and my roommates to do the dishes throughout the week. When one of them decided to not do theirs on their day i got fed up with it since it was a reoccurring thing. I told them straight to their face to get their act together, since i knew they were doing it on purpose, and start acting like adults and do their dishes. Since this was happening frequently i was becoming more and more stressed with my schooling since it got on my nerves so much. But atfer i said what has been building up for so long, it felt great that i got it off my back. Since then my roommates have done their dishes on time, and no longer wanted to see that side of me anymore.

Detention notice for the mother of a student.

In this warm up for the day, it is a notice to a mother of a student just letting her know that her son has detention on Friday. The teacher gave the student detention because he contradicted her with "disregard for authority." The only reason the student did so is because the teacher said one kilometer is more than one mile. The student refused to agree with this and knew he was right and she was wrong. He also said that she is lyling to the class and told the students not to believe it. Personally i think this student deserves nothing. There is no reason why the teacher should have to give the student any punishment. He can state his own opinion to who ever he want no matter what it is. THere is simply no reason that the teacher should be doing this, and she is sending wrongful info to student. There has to be something in her teaching license where she cant teach false info. I do not agree at all with this letter.

Cartoon picture about global warming

There is a simple two cartoon picture on global warming. The first picture is of a person saying "Oh my god its 50 degrees in january! We're gonna die!!" The next picture is one month later with a lot of snow and the person now says "this sucks wheres that global warning stuff?" My interpertation of this cartoon is really what everyone is like all over the world. It seems everyone is worried about it, but none of it is going to happen anytime soon. I just think we are getting all worked up about nothing. This is not going to affect us in our lifetime. So we should just not worry so much about it and get everyone scared.

Whats a movie/book/song that changed your perspective on something. How?

Once again im going to go with the song "Imagine" by John Lennon. It makes you get a whole new perspective on the world and how we view it. It really makes you think of what a perfect world would be like if everyone got along and agreed on everything. What if everyone agreed on religion? Government? War? Countries? What if everyone got what they wanted and were happy with the world? It makes you think of what if everyone was the same, such as race? It makes you think of a whole new world, what the possibillities could be if everyone just agreed. Just think about it and wonder... what if?

Write about a book, movie, song, or something else that changed your world for good or bad.

The item I am choosing is the song "Imagine" made famously by John Lennon. If you have never heard this song before it is a very emotional, powerful, and thoughtful song. With in the lyrics he basically says imagine if there were no countries, religion, ethnicity, war, nothing to die for, and basically no bad in the world. What if we all no longer fought and agreed on everything in the world? If you just think deeply about it, it will give you the chills(or it did for me). It is kind of crazy to think in this way because its really true, what if it happened? What would everyones way of living be like? Would it be that perfect world everyone seeks for? What if? Its a very strong emotional song that I find very powerful.

www.phdcomics.com

In this comic there are two slides. On the first slide it says "How you see yourself," and it shows a picture of a young person with words around him such as complex human being, hopes, dreams, and aspirations. On the next slide it says "How most professors see you," with a picture of a brain on top of a stick with both of them labeled. The professor also is saying "so, hows research?" Understanding this comic you have to think from both perspectives. On the students side he has great hope and dreams for life with great success and a happy life. On the other hand the college professor only sees you for your smartness, or your brain. That is all they expect out of you is what comes out of your head, and what you can do with it.

What is my biggest pet peeve? Why? What lengths would you go in order to avoid it?

Ever since i have worked at my job "Plants and Things" i have always been a organized neat person. When i worked there we would have to move statues, sheds, furniture, etc, and when we moved these items we would have to have everything in nice, neat, well balanced rows. Everything had to look good, for the customer and my boss. Since working there i now do this with everything in everyday life. For example when i go grocery shopping i would bring home all the food and i would make it well organized in my fridge. I would make sure everything is in plain view and that things are close to the front and in straight lines. I really cant avoid it because i get great satisfaction out of it when it looks all nice and tidy. I enjoy it when i do this because i like to be a neat, clean, tidy person.

"Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten". -B.F. Skinner

When i read this quote quite a few things pop into my head of what this really means. If you read and just think about it you can grasp of what message is trying to be sent. Education is always going to here, there are always someone, like a teacher, or something, like a book, that is going to be continuing the education or learning process. We can only keep education going, to keep remembering what we endured or learned. We forget what we have learned because people simply die and no longer obtain the information that they learned. We can only keep passing on the education we obtained to keep the ongoing process of learning.

What i expect from this semester, instructor, course, and myself.

When it comes to me and any type of english class i have never got along with it. So some of the things i expect from this class are lots of reading, writing, and papers. not really my strong points in life but i will be ablt to manage. From the semester i think i will do well by simply looking at the materials and stuff we will be covering. I hope my instructor is fair and will teach well enough for me to preform the tasks. I want to pull out a reasonable grade in this course so i am willing to try my hardest to get it. For myself i hope to achieve all of my goals and succeed. By looking at this course the only downfall i think it has is its papers, there are 3 major papers which happen to be 50% of my grade. The other 50% will be easy the accomplish so as long as i do some what well on the papers i think i will putt out the grade i am looking for.

About Me!

My name is Nicholas Myslicki and I am in my first year at MSU. I'm 19 years old and I want to study medicine after I get my biology degree here an MSU. I have always been involved in sports since I could walk, and even now I play lacrosse for MSU. I have tried every sport out there from baseball and basketball to track and soccer. Now I found the true sport i was meant to play, lacrosse! I grew up in the same house all my life, my family never moved at all. I lived in Ramsey Minnesota and atteneded all of the local schools. I graduated from Anoka High school in 2008 with a class size of around 700. I was also very involved with clubs in my school and I was very involved with my community, especially with my church. I would do numerous community service events through church, i also attened yearly mission trips in which we would go and help the less fortunate throughout the united states. We traveled to Maine, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. It overall was a experience of a lifetime to see so many parts of our nation. Now to go on and talk about my family, I have my parents and one sibling. I have only had one pet all my life and it is a cat named Kirby who happens to be 15 years old. My parents never would get me a dog, which i have always wanted for as long as i can remember. One thing i am very passionate about is my heritage, and my nationality. I am very proud to say that i am 75% Polish, and i love everything about it, especially the food and traditions. I have a wonderful girlfriend named Laurie who is a year younger than me. we have been happily dating for over 6 months now. She will be attending the U of M Twin Cities in the fall of 2009. Some people have found me weird when it comes to one of my personal hobbies. I collect coins, old and rare ones. I will go to a store and basically buy money for my collection. People never got why i would do such a thing but I understand the meaning behind it. For my most part you know the basics of me and what im made of.
